Otagi-Nenbutsuji Temple, Arashiyama, Japan

Otagi-Nenbutsuji is a small temple in the farthest reaches of Arashiyama. It is quite hidden on an ascent on the final stretch of road leading into the mountains. You won’t see many visitors here because of its fairly remote location and because of the current situation with the pandemic. You might want to find out beforehand which of the statues you’d like to see. I was scrambling to find them all in the time I had there. My favorites were the cameraman, boxer, and the person listening to his cassette player. The video explains a bit more what I’m talking about. You should visit the 400 year old restaurant just down the hill also which is famous for ayu (sweetfish). Great atmosphere, great food and great service which is usually what you get in Kyoto.
